InBiz are working in partnership with Work Directions UK to provide the Self Employment option to the UP & Running programme in the Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth JCP District of London. This is an ESF funded programme and is aimed to reduce unemployment amongst disadvantaged people facing barriers to work and improve economic activity promoting flexible working

Programme Type

UP & Running is a programme focused on all the economically inactive people who are not fully supported by existing employment programmes it can appeal to a large spectrum of clients in receipt of any kind of benefits or not at all wishing to return or to look for work it is aimed to reduce unemployment amongst disadvantaged people facing barriers to work and improve economic activity promoting flexible working. The self employment can be a valid option for many, InBiz will ensure the clients are equipped with the skills needed to run a business and be self employed and to plug into the business support that is available and can apply for.

The Self Employment programme is broken into 3 stages:

Stage 1 - this is an initial meeting to assess viability of business idea, basic skills, ESOL and the explanation of the programme.
Once established viability of business issues including planning, understanding marketing and market research, preparing costings for products and services and producing profit and cash flow forecast will be covered.

Stage 2 - at this point the business plan, a cash flow and an action plan are completed and the readiness of client is assessed. If not ready relevant parts can be repeated or if ready the client can start stage 3 supported self employment. At this stage the BA will ensure the client understands the implications for their benefits position of their starting up the business and coming off benefits and that they have full information on tax and insurance requirements and any other support available to them such as Tax Credits, housing and council tax benefits

Stage 3 - during this phase the client will get the business up and running with the support of the Business Advisor who he will meet regularly to discuss relevant issues such as business opportunities and manage problems. From the start of this stage the client will receive a weekly grant for a minimum of 13 weeks provided that the business is operating, will come off the benefits and register with HMRC as self employed person.
