Tees Valley Entrepreneurs on Fast Track to Success

Tees Valley InBiz scheme ‘Fast Track to Enterprise’ celebrates first entrepreneur

Jason Moore, 19, from Stockton, has become the first entrepreneur to benefit from a new scheme in Tees Valley, Fast Track to Enterprise. The scheme helps people who are unemployed to enter into self employment in just eight weeks.

Jason had been unemployed for six months, having been made redundant from his job at a horse box manufacturing company. He was eager to get back to work, and off benefits, as soon as possible. Jason wanted to work in a field that would allow him to utilise his joinery background and learn new skills within the building trade and decided that self employment would be the best way forward.

Jason was referred to InBiz, a national organisation dedicated to the promotion and development of self employment and entrepreneurship, by Jobcentre Plus for help in setting up his own business.

At the InBiz office on Yarm Road, Stockton, Jason embarked on the Fast Track to Enterprise programme. Over the course of eight weeks, Jason received help and guidance on launching and running a business. He had his own business adviser, Leigh Trimble, who took him through everything he would need to know to get started, including bookkeeping, tax and marketing. Jason was given support, with weekly meetings including one-to-ones and Workshop Training Sessions.

After eight weeks, Jason was ready to launch his business. JM Joinery Services is proving successful, and Jason is currently working with private landlord and property development firms refurbishing rented properties back to their original state, or back to rentable standard.

Jason will continue to receive support from InBiz for the first six months of trading and have monthly meetings with Leigh. He is already looking to the future, and hoping to expand into buying and developing property with a view to renting or selling.

Jason said, “I was desperate to get back to work, and self employment seemed like the best option. I was apprehensive because I didn’t know anything about it. InBiz helped me to understand the ins and outs of running a business, and removed any fear I had.”

Karen Kenmare, Area Manager at InBiz, said, “InBiz helps hundreds of people from Tees Valley into self employment each year and I am delighted that the Fast Track to Enterprise programme had helped its first entrepreneur successfully launch his own business. The programme is designed to help people get into self employment quickly, while offering tailored, structured help and six months of follow-up support to maximise the chances of success. I wish Jason all the best for the future, and look forward to helping more budding entrepreneurs from across Tees Valley.”
