Prototype Raycing set for pole position with the help of InBiz
Graham Wilson, a 56 year old mechanic from Lowestoft with 40 years experience in the motor industry, gives his business ‘Prototype Raycing’, which restores, modifies and builds vehicles, a racing start with the help of InBiz, a national organisation dedicated to the promotion and development of self employment and entrepreneurship, in Gordon Road, Lowestoft.
Graham previously worked as a workshop technician, he also worked as a lecturer at Kingston College of Further Education, a mechanic at Rover Group, as well as Italian racing car specialists, Classico before becoming unemployed. Following two years of unemployment, he decided to use his skillbase and experience to set up his own business. He was referred to InBiz on Monday 8th March 2010.At first Graham doubted his ability to start his own business on benefits. However, following a few sessions with Peter Ahliwalia, his InBiz personal advisor, who advised him of the support base available to him, including tax credits, he realised that his dream could become a reality. Peter also provided support and advise on writing a business plan, marketing materials, accounts and tax advice.
Commenting on the advise and help he received at InBiz, Graham said: "I had thought of setting up my own business before, but have always seen it as a huge hurdle. InBiz made it a possibility. They guided me throughout the whole process, and continue to do so now. This is particularly important, as I feel like I can still go to them with additional queries, rather than just being left to my own devices. I am incredibly grateful to Peter, for his patience and insight."
Peter Ahliwalia, InBiz adviser added:"Since launching his business a quarter of the jobs he scheduled with customers has been completed and he has at least six months work lined up. This is a great endorsement of the quality of service his providing. Graham was realistic about his business model and open to advise and guidance, all of this contributed to the success of the launch of Prototype Raycing. I look forward to accompanying his success and providing any additional support he might require as his business grows."
