InBiz in Newcastle helps deliver 84 people from unemployment into entrepreneurship
InBiz in Westgate Road, Newcastle has helped deliver 84 people from benefits into entrepreneurship in the last 6 months.InBiz specialises in promoting and developing self employment and entrepreneurship as a way into sustainable employment. One person who has received help in launching a business is Philip Porter, 35, from Newcastle upon Tyne.
Philip suffered from tinnitus, a medical condition where the sufferer hears noise perceived to be coming from inside the body. Philip was desperate for a cure and began receiving SCENAR (Self-Controlled Engergo Neuro Adaptive Regulation) therapy. SCENAR was originally developed for the Russian space programme, and involves stimulating the nervous system to teach the body to heal itself.
Philip found his symptoms were greatly reduced after using SCENAR. He became a SCENAR practitioner and worked with a doctor to develop ZAST (Zephiloyd Aural Scenar Technique) which may help alleviate symptoms.
Philip wanted to run his own business to practice SCENAR therapy, and make his ZAST technique widely available. Philip lacked business knowledge, and turned to InBiz for help. At InBiz, Philip was assigned a personal business adviser, Ron Gordon, who helped him secure funding from Newcastle City Council and the Jobcentre Plus discretionary fund to get started. Ron also helped Philip with bookkeeping, marketing, tax and insurance.
As well as practicing SCENAR at the home of the person receiving treatment, Philip also loans out the ZAST equipment, including probes, instructions and email support, on eBay. As ZAST is unique, Ron helped Philip to create a clause in rental contracts to prevent individuals from carrying out the technique on others.
Philip’s business, Zephiloyd, is successfully trading online. Philip said, “SCENAR therapy has enriched my life, by reducing my tinnitus symptoms as well as providing me with a way to enter into self employment. The process of launching my business has been the most enriching experience in my working life so far.”
Karen Kenmare, Area Manager at InBiz, said, “Philip is a good example of the work that InBiz does in Newcastle. Philip had an idea to launch a business allowing him to earn a living from ZAST and SCENAR therapy. InBiz helped him to make his idea a reality by providing Philip with the practical business knowledge he needed to succeed.”
