Francine (Chester)

Francine, 49, from Kirkham, Lancashire, always had a passion for arts and crafts and had enjoyed a hobby making and designing jewellery for many years.

It was something she completed in her spare time while running a pub for six years and then later when she worked for the Army at the local Officer’s Mess, but it wasn’t until July 2009 that demand for her goods became overwhelming and she realised she could make a viable business out of her talent.

Having produced cards and jewellery for special occasions for her friends over the years, Francine had the skills but turned to InBiz for support to turn her hobby into a business. Together with her business adviser, Trevor, she compiled a business plan to enable her business to grow and develop. Trevor was also on hand to provide support and advice about getting the business off the ground and contributed valuable ideas to encourage Francine to succeed.

Although aspects such as diary organising and sourcing effective craft fairs through which to showcase her products was challenging, Francine enjoyed having the freedom to control her working hours and was thrilled to be doing something she really enjoyed for a living.

The majority of sales from Francine’s business, The Silver Bead Shop, come through word of mouth but she has already planned to attend numerous craft and wedding fairs throughout 2010 in order to promote her work. Her husband has recently converted their garage into a studio so she is able to work from home as and when she pleases, and have all her equipment and materials to hand. With a regular client base already established, Francine is excited to have made the leap into self employment and is excited about growing the business further.
